«TABBY, Threat Assessment
of Bulling Behavior of Youngsters in Internet» 2011-2015

1st Junior High School of Oraiokastro participated in the European Research with the title «Threat Assessment of Bulling Behavior of Youngsters in Internet», that has been structured by the Psychology Department of the  Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, with scientifically responsible Mrs. Christina Athanasiadou, professor.  The above research concerned a proposal that has been financed by the European Union under the agenda of the DAFNI project in which participate eight European Countries (Italy, Cyprus, Greece, Hungary, Bulgaria, France, Spain and Poland).

The aim of the research was to develop in a European level, a tool that could help young students, their teachers and parents to identify the hazards that connect with internet use and to act properly in order to reduce danger of undesirable behaviors.

The research mainly included the usage of a questionnaire that could assess the danger of bulling behavior among youngsters in the internet. An additional target of the research was the training of a number of students and teachers in using the internet safely.

In the First Phase of the research, during school year 2011-2012, a questionnaire was given to both the experimental student team as well as the control team. The 1st Junior High School of Oraiokastro participated with an experimental group of students. Specifically, the experimental team attended an updating concerning: a) the safe use of the internet, b) the importance and the consequences of electronic bulling and electronic tracking and c) the ways that someone can use in order to confront such phenomena. The participating class during 2011-2012 school year was the Second one.

In the Second Phase of the research, during school year 2012-2013, the same students who were in the Third class participated and they completed the same questionnaire with the purpose of comparing the results deriving from their answers. The differences between the results, e.g. between the experimental and control team, gave information for the validity and the reliability of the questionnaire and the effectiveness of the intervention.

In the Third Phase of the research, during school year 2013-2014, the students of the First and Second classes participated. The students watched and commented four videos concerning electronic bulling in school and completed an improved version of the questionnaire.

In the Forth Phase of the research, during school year 2014-2015, the students of the Second and Third class participated. The students used a video game designed with the purpose of confronting matters concerning electronic bulling and completed a new improved version of the questionnaire.

The participating teachers were: Mr. Georgios Arvanitidis, School Principal, Agriculturist, Mr. Panagiotis Paganos, Vice Principal, Mathematician, Mrs. Anna Michailidou, Computer Science, Mr. Savvas Fragos, Philologist, Mrs. Eugenia Batziou, Geologist and Mrs. Kondilo Stiliamnopoulou, Philologist.
